How to Watch Local Channels without Cable

One of the biggest issues with cutting the cord is finding out how to watch local channels without cable. We have many options to find what best works for you.

Cheapest Way to Watch Local Channels without Cable

These new HD antennas aren’t like the old rabbit ears you may be used to. They actually work. I tried a few and I’ll let you know how it went.

I tried this one first

Portable TV Antenna, 50 Miles Range Clear TV Premium HD Mini Mobile Antenna,Easy Placement Both Suitable for Home Car Antenna TV Digital HD Indoor Outdoor

It did pull in a number of local TV channels. The clarity was really good for some of the stations (some stations broadcast older shows that aren’t in 1080 or 4K, so you’ll need to figure that in to your experience). The big plus is that it was small. If your TV is far away from a window, you could attach it to the back of the TV and not have to worry about wires stretching to a window.

I tried this one next

TV Antenna, Amplified Digital HD TV Antenna Indoor for Smart TV Support 4K 1080P Television and TV’s Outdoor HDTV Amplifier Booster for Local Channels 150 Miles Long Range – Magnetic Base&Coax Cable

It’s a given that the channels you can pick up depend on a number of factors: Where you live in accordance to the various station’s broadcast antennas, weather, mountains, etc.

The first antenna I mentioned worked alright, but I wanted to try one that included an amplifier to boost the signal, so I tried the second antenna.

When I scanned for TV channels with the second antenna, I did pick up more local TV channels, and I’ve stayed with this one ever since.

Use the Internet to Watch Local Channels without Cable

Network websites

It is a good idea to look up your local TV network websites to see what TV shows they provide streaming access after they have broadcast.

A different way to keep up with news stories is on YouTube. It offers links to watch important news stories Live (elections, for example) on different from certain TV networks. Also, most TV networks put news stories (and some complete news shows) on YouTube to view after it initially aired. It is definitely worth your time to take a good look at YouTube’s offerings.

Local Network News websites

Local news streaming offerings are more plentiful. The local TV network news websites have links that allow you to stream news when it is live. If you follow your particular local news stations on Social Media platforms, they can provide links to stream news programs, as well as links to stream breaking news stories.

Local Network News Streaming Apps

If you have a Smart TV, Fire TV device, etc, there are many local TV network streaming apps that can be downloaded. The nice thing is that if you catch these new programs as they are being aired, you can watch them “live”, then afterward, the news programs and stories are saved and made available on these apps, so you can keep up with stories, weather, etc on your schedule.

Awesome Ways to Reset this New Year

Do you feel like a reset this New Year? The New Year gives us an innate sense of starting over. These tips should help you take advantage of the New Year reset.

Rest this New Year and Upgrade your Streaming device/stick

If Santa didn’t bring you a shiny, new streaming device or stick this year, it might be time to treat yourself. Here are some links below to look for new versions of streaming devices you may want to upgrade to:

Amazon Firestick

Amazon Fire TV Cube

Reset this new year tipsRoku

Apple TV

Cancel apps you aren’t using as much

It’s always a good idea to save money. Review your apps on the streaming device you own and determine which apps you don’t use anymore – and cancel the subscription. Now, do a happy dance with all that money you save!

Delete apps you are not using

Most streaming sticks (Fire TV Sticks, for example) don’t have as much storage room as you would like, so therefore reviewing and canceling apps you don’t use anymore is a great idea.

  1. Go to Settings on your Fire TV device.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Select Manage Installed Applications.
  4. Select the app you want to uninstall, and then Uninstall.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Clear Cache on your Fire TV Stick apps

One of the most sneaky ways that your Firestick storage space fills up is the cache of you apps. Clearing the cache on apps is a great way to speed up your Firestick.

  1. Go to Settings on your Fire TV device.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. In Manage Installed Applications, scroll down through the apps that have a large cache size (1 MB or more), and click on Clear Cache.
  4. Select Clear Cache on each particular app.

Rest this New Year with Spring Cleaning

We all love our TV streaming setup, but it’s not a bad idea to show it some Spring Cleaning love during the New Year.

Reset this New Year with Spring Cleaning

Initially, grab a Swiffer Duster and carefully dust your TV Streaming area, TV/Monitor screen, cable/streaming device box, sound bar, speakers, and most importantly – behind the TV, the TV stand. Note: You may need to enlist the vacuum and some of the coolio extension wands to really get rid of the dust that builds up over time.

Share something important with a good friend

Unfortunately, TV streaming can be a solitary event, but its always good to share that time with a friend or family member.

Contact a good friend or family member and ask if they are interested in a movie swap. If they are, each of you can make a list of 5 movies that you will come together and share these movies and learn more about the other person.

Unsubscribe from newsletters you never read

When you look through your daily emails do you see newsletters that you once were interested, but now not? It’s time to say goodbye to them and unsubscribe!

Reset this New Year and Pay some Karma forward

Reset this New Year and Pay some Karma forward

Paying Karma forward can be fun. Be on the lookout for opportunities that you can show kindness to someone else:

Let someone ahead of you in the grocery store line,

Pay for someone’s coffee order behind you, etc.

Finish at least one project you put off in the previous year

Starting projects is easy, finishing them is more difficult. Look back on last year and find at least one unfinished project and find the motivation to move it over the finish line.

Reach out to 5 people you’ve been meaning to

Time marches on, and we need to take advantage of the time we have now to do important things – like check in on family and friends we may not have previously.

Reset this New Year and Write down lessons you’ve learned in the last year

The last year usually has struggles and from those struggles, we can learn some lessons. Sit down with a pen and paper (step away from the Smartphone for a bit) and write down the lessons you’ve learned in the last year. You might want to share them with others and ask them what lessons they learned in the last year.

How to Lower Your Cable Bill | 10 Secrets

Everyone loves to save money, right? Well, we have 10 secrets on how to lower your cable bill. Take some notes along the way, we’ll bet you’ve never thought of some of our secrets.

Here we go!

1. Whatcha really watching?

It goes without saying that it’s always a good idea to take a close look at what cable channels you REALLY need. Oh, I know you think, “I need them all!” but truthfully if you look through the channels that you are actually watching, you’ll start to see that you actually don’t watch them all, and then come to the realization that you don’t really need them all.

Cutting Premium channels usually are the first channels to go, but the difficulty is that cable companies group cable channels (including premium channels) together in strange ways, so you may have to keep more cable channels that you won’t watch, instead of just keeping what you will be watching.

2. The Biggest Key on How to Lower Your Cable Bill – Make the Call!

how-to-lower-your-cable-bill

One of the big secrets of how to lower your cable bill is to call them to lower your bill.

When you call the number, ask for the loyalty ( or the retention) department and explain that your cable bill is too high and ask what can they do to lower it.

Pro-Tip: Try initially asking an open-ended question first, “Is there anything you can do to lower my cable bill?” You are not aware of the ways they can lower you bill (unless you’re a psychic), so let them tell you what they can do to lower you bill, first.

3. To Bundle or not to Bundle

From Flo at Progressive and on down the line, bundling is a new way to get more for less (we hope), but you need to keep your wits and the bottom line in mind as you negotiate your lower cable bill.

More than likely, the person in the loyalty department will float out the idea to you, “Have you thought about bundling?” There are normally three parts that a cable company can offer (Because cable companies have a monopoly of offering internet packages.): Cell phone data, Cable TV service, and Internet.

If you have cell phone data with a different carrier, it may (Notice, I said ‘may’) make sense to bundle it together, but discuss the options – the pros and the cons and make a decision, or say not thank you and continue to research.

4. The Hardest or Easiest part of this – Local Channels.

Option 1:

Cable companies find ways of bunching cable channels with local channels, so you will end up keeping more than what you really will be watching.

What we finally did we continue to ask, and we found that there was a secret ‘local channels only’ option that you could request at a lower amount.

Option 2:

If paying for local channels with the cable company is still too expensive, the cheapest option is old school:

The Over-the-Air Antenna. Here is a link of options from Amazon (paid link)

5. Ditch the DVR?

Do you really need your DVR?

Sure, saving particular shows to watch later is important to some, but weighing it out to save money is important, too.

How often do you use your DVR? If your answer is, ‘Not that often,’ then it might be time to get rid of it and save some money.

6. Too Many Boxes?

Consider how many cable boxes you have in certain rooms of your house/apartment. Do they all get constant use? If some cable boxes are in certain rooms for convenience once in awhile, you might want to return the ones you really don’t need.

7. It’s Paradigm Shift Time!

Back in the old days, we associated TV programs with physical antennas, then we made the shift to magical cable boxes and cables to bring us programs into our television sets, but another change has come – streaming.

Switching to streaming isn’t an automatic savings win, but it is a good start.

The key to this mindset is changing the importance of getting cable to the importance of getting high speed internet.

8. Try Before You Buy

Sometimes you need to kick the tires on a streaming app to see if you like it, before you start paying a monthly fee for it.We have a list of streaming apps that you can try for free. Note: Keep a reminder handy, so you can cancel before the trial period is over and not get charged (unless you really like it).

9. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a great way to test out how to lower your cable bill and super charge your TV!

There are a number of streaming sticks or boxes that can add powerful functionality to your TV. The Fire TV Stick is a great addition to inform you of all new streaming programs offered to you through your subscription, and it also allows you add fantastic apps that will give you more choices and streaming offerings than you could ever imagine.

Here is the Fire TV Stick we own and use:

10. Switch Providers

There are times in life, you need to make a clean break of things – even with a cable provider.

A great negotiation tactic is to compare your current cable provider with it’s competition to get a better deal elsewhere and then, mention you are thinking of leaving them for their competition.

You may want to stay with your current cable company because you may have history with them, however on the other hand, sometimes leaving a cable provider makes you something like a magnet to great deals – a new customer.

And finally! You Can Cut the Cord!

Change is difficult, and many times we settle into the norm and chug ahead, but I hope we have given you some solid tips on how to lower your cable bill.

12 Best Christmas Movies and Specials to Stream in 2022

We present the 12 best Christmas movies and specials to stream in 2022. The goal is to show the different facets of the Christmas experience. We even have some special gifts at the end of the list, you’ll see.

1. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

You’ve undoubtedly seen the clip of George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) running down the street shouting his regained appreciation for the shops in his town – and life in general. This Frank Capra’s 1946 more dramatic spin on a Twilight Zone-ish premise of “What would life be like if I were never born?” I must admit that watching the bad George Bailey portion is hard to take, but it makes the reborn George that much more sweeter.

2. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (1951) with Alistair Sim

Whether it’s an angel or a specter, Christmas seems to be rife with opportunities to rethink and rework our lives. This story of a mean miser that is led through the errors of his life and given another chance has been done a number of time, but this is my favorite. Alistair Sims is as mean as they come, an as contrite as a man should be after given a second chance. Yes, I may get a bit misty-eyed when I watch it. It must be the dust in the air…

3. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Clark Griswold is the archetypal father that wants every vacation and holiday to be perfect, but alas it rarely is – especially for the Griswold family. All the hilarious Christmas comedy tropes are here and so is a who’s who of fantastic cameos by fantastic actors. If you’ve ever been stressed out by the holidays and wanted to take it out on the Christmas lawn decorations, then this movie is for you.

4. Home Alone (1990)

What if a family took a family vacation and there were so many people, you left one of the children ‘home alone’? That’s the premise of this Christmas classic. You will need a healthy dose of ‘suspension of disbelief’ with this one, but it’s still hilarious. Now kids, don’t try any of these booby traps for real, ok?

5. The Santa Clause (1994)

We have another Twilight Zone-y story about the process of choosing a new Santa Clause. Tim Allen struggles (like other Joseph Campbell’s heroes (Ahem, Luke Skywalker, etc.)) to accept his new-found calling and how it affects everything in his life – and his scale. It was a fun look at all the inter-workings of the South Pole before, during and after Christmas.

Trivia: Tim Allen has a criminal record, and Disney has a strict no hiring of ex-cons policy. An exception was made in this case. Link for more trivia: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111070/trivia/

6. Elf (2003)

As you grow older and :cough: learn the truth about Christmas :cough:, you tend to become more cynical about it all. Elf is a great antidote for that cynicism. Will Ferrell plays an elf that still has the child-like Christmas wonder as he leaves the South Pole to find and reconnect with his cynical father, played brilliantly by James Caan. So many great scenes and cameos by great actor, including Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage.

Trivia: In the feature film, Elf (2003), the North Pole depicted, and the elf costumes for Buddy (played by Will Ferrell) and the other elves, were modeled after the clothes the elves wear in this production. Furthermore the character of Leon the Snowman bears a strong resemblance to Burl Ives’ Sam Snowman, despite being a caricature of Leon Redbone. 7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)

I’ll bet this was the first Christmas special I ever saw as a kid. It tapped into the struggles we all went through as kids: Not fitting in, that time someone said we were cute, the pressure to excel at something, facing our fears, and learning that some of us want to be dentists. This special had funny parts, sad parts and scary parts – all narrated by the wonderful Snow Man, Burl Ives.

Trivia: The actor who voiced Comet is often mistaken for Don Adams. It’s actually Paul Kligman doing a Don Adams impersonation. Link for more trivia: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058536/trivia/

8. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

This is probably the only Christmas special that atheists and church folk can agree on. This was the first Peanuts special ever made, and what a way to make an entrance. So many memorable scenes: Charlie Brown’s pitifully small Christmas tree, the peanuts gang dancing, and of course, the Christmas play.

Trivia: This special broke many of the rules prevalent for animated holiday specials during the 1960s: it didn’t make use of a laugh track; real children were used for the character voices instead of adult actors imitating children’s voices; and Biblical references were used to illustrate the true meaning of Christmas. A spirit brother of Scrooge, for sure – we present Dr. Seuss’s, Grinch. This green, grumpy miser traverses through his redemption arc without the guidance of the 3 spirits, but still made it to the finish line as a new, reborn Grinch.

Trivia: Dr. Seuss disputed casting Boris Karloff for fear that he would make the Grinch too scary. Link for more trivia: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060345/trivia/

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Tim Burton, the patron saint director for characters that don’t really ‘fit in’, crafted a witty movie mashup of Halloween and Christmas. It would be in the realm of possibility that Mr. Burton had seen the ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ as possible inspiration. It is refreshing to see a creepy character come at Christmas from a different point of view than we are used to.

11. Die Hard (1988)

This movie choice may cause some lively discussions around the Christmas tree, but some believe that this action flick starring Bruce Willis from 1988 is a Christmas movie. However, as you can guess, there are those that strongly disagree with that assessment. You may debate that amongst yourselves – with or without Eggnog being imbibed.

12. Star Wars: A New Hope

This might be a long shot, and it might not be for all, but some families have started a tradition to watch this space opera classic from 1977 during Christmas. George Lucas baked in Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero’s Journey’ storytelling points into this good vs evil action extravaganza. You might want to do some research on Joseph’s Campbell’s writing (paid link) (to get the deeper meaning of Star Wars : A New Hope that you may have missed upon your initial viewing).

Hosea – a love story

RoneyZone Media has always used many platforms to express our creativity; Blogs, Social Media, Graphics, Videos, Podcasting, Audio Parodies, and Audio Dramas.

A few years ago I decided to create a Bible Story with the depth of Hollywood Movies or TV Shows that I had admired for many years. To take the story and characters that I chose and dive into the subject matter to bring it to life for a new generation.

My perspective would not be to water the story down, like a Veggie Tales treatment, but as if Martin Scorsese would direct it – but back off a bit.

I wrote the script and waited. I revisited the script, rewrote it and decided to cast it to see if it could be made at all. My goal was not to use religious belief as a litmus test, only the skill of the actors. The actors I gathered were an amazing group that brought the script to life.

This has been posted years ago on a site that has since crashed, so I decided to dust off this Audio Drama of the Bible story, Hosea and present it again.

I will add the link to the audio drama production here (at the bottom of this post). I am quite aware that some have differing beliefs and non-beliefs, but I will let the production stand on its own.

My 10 Favorite Video Games – Part 2 – Men are Dumb

We continue my list of my Top 10 Favorite Video Games. If you missed Part 1, the link is HERE

5. Tomb Raider 2 (Playstation)

tomb_raider_2_box

I loved the original Tomb Raider, but the enhancements added to Tomb Raider 2 made it so much more to play. The expansive, globe trotting mission to retrieve a magical dagger and kill a dragon is enough to hook you, but there is so much more. The Great Wall of China, Venice, Offshore rig, Tibet, etc. This is a huge game. It is tough with time traps, spikes, spinning blades, bad doggies, bad guys, and a dragon. This wasn’t Xbox360, but for its time (and still today, actually) it is a classic. The games moved away from tomb raiding, but this was Tomb Raider at its best. I really enjoyed the Venice Violins music that you can play in Lara Mansion as you explore.

My 10 Favorite Video Games – Part 1 – Men are Dumb

Video games. It’s what people do when they should be; working out, calling their Mom, going to work, whatever. I haven’t owned every platform, but I have compiled my 10 favorite video games (Even though I list them from 10 to 1, sometimes I re-arrange the order myself).

10. Bioshock

BioShock_box

The spookiest, most atmospheric, fun game ever. Creepy splicers chasing you, weird dentists that I hope aren’t on my dental plan, Big Daddies, amazing plasmids and choices that rule/change the outcome. Two more things; The smoke and lighting effects are incredible, but the most spooky aspect of this game (for me) is the classic ‘old-timey’ music being played on other-worldly speakers throughout the game. Don’t ask me about the 2 or Infinite – the original is still the best.

Britney, Jen and Things with 8 Legs – Men are Dumb

Written by Jeff Roney. Originally posted on April 28, 2010

Britney, Jen and Things with 8 Legs

spideronwomans face

When a guy hears the famous scream “There’s a huge spider in the bathroom!” he runs in with a welding mask, Kevlar vest and a paintball gun to destroy this “humongous” beast that is threatening his honey. Turns out, it’s some no-name teeny spider crawling along minding its own business. Most guys respond the same way – “That’s not a huge spider”. After that, his honey yells “Get it!”

giant-spider-screaming-woman

Get it.

What does that mean? Do I trap and release it in the wild? If I don’t take the spider far enough away from the house, will it find its way back and know where to hide better next time? Should I blindfold the spider? How many eyes does a spider have? Do I need to use one blindfold for each eye? Do I have to treat the captured spider like a POW? Do I have to offer it food and water while I transport it to its new home? Will I appear before an insect tribunal if I mistreat the spider? So much to think about.

That doesn’t make much sense. Wait. Do you think she meant “Kill it!” without saying the word ‘kill’? Hmmmmm, so ‘get’ means ‘kill’. Got it. Woman translation issue.

So I go in, armed with a rolled up magazine and start to swing…

“Stop!!!!” she yells.

“What?” I ask.

“Don’t use that magazine!”

“What’s wrong with using the [unrolling to see the cover] ‘Will
Jennifer Anniston ever find love?’ issue?”

jennifer-aniston-sad-1

“I was saving it!”

“Saving it?”

“Yeah, use the ‘Britney Breaks Down Again,’ magazine. Here [hands me the other issue]. Hurry, get the spider!”
“Honey, I love you with every fiber of my being, but I can’t believe I’m having a discussion with you about which magazine to use to kill a spider with.”

“I don’t want spider guts on Jen’s face”

“But Britney’s face is okay for the spider guts?”

britney-crazy

“Yes, kill the spider! Hurry!”

“What if Britney cleans up her act, has a great album, and becomes a star again?”

“No. She’ll probably get mad at Kevin for forgetting to send a child support check, then call Paris and ask her to go out partying, forgetting to wear her underwear again. Brit Brit gets the spider guts. Kill it!!!!”

Britney Spears became the spider killer – Jennifer Anniston was spared. You’re welcome, Jen.

Jennifer-Aniston-08

I also want to discuss the eye problems women have. I’m not sure how it happens, but the “huge” spider they are afraid of gets much smaller by the time the guy walks in. Why is that? Don’t know.

bigspider

Insects fear men.

It’s true, because men are lazy mad scientists. Men will rarely go to a store and buy the proper spray for a particular pest. They will be “creative” with their pest control. Men will use anything under the kitchen sink to get rid of bugs. I’m serious.

Jeff's "Go To Insect Spray When There Isn't The Right Insect Spray To Go To" Spray

Jeff’s “Go To Insect Spray When There Isn’t The Right Insect Spray To Go To” Spray

Another story about me, my wife and an insect (Wasp actually).

EuropeanPaperWasp_WEB

My wife (who was my girlfriend at the time) and I went into her apartment one day and a wasp decided to fly in and join us. No knock-knock. No “Could I join you both for a little ‘Hide and Sting’ party?” Nothing.

My wife sees the wasp, and runs into the bathroom and slams the door.

It took a second, but I realized that its just me and a wasp – alone in her front room. I don’t want to go near the wasp, so I say to my girlfriend (Who will be my wife if I survived this) “I hope you’re okay in the bathroom safe and sound. What do you want me to do with the wasp?”

The classic response came, “Get it!”

Now, we’ve discussed that already, so I responded, “How? Verbal abuse?”

“I don’t know, just get it!”, she yelled. I could tell the wasp was getting bored with our exchange.

“Do you have any hairspray in there?” I asked my wife (still in the bathroom, I might add).

“Noooooo……” she says, as if I should know the answer already.

“No? Didn’t you ladies have any left over from the 80’s?”

With a sigh she responded, “Let me check.”

“Okay, I’ll just make some tea, then” I replied. The wasp shakes his little wasp head at the exchange.

“Here!” She opens the door and throws it out onto the floor outside the door.

“Couldn’t you hand it to me?” I ask, a trifle irritated.

“No, the wasp might get in here.”

I crept up and picked up the hairspray bottle. It was a pump spray bottle.

Pump spray bottle.

I pressed on the pump button to spray it, and it wouldn’t spray.

I was Pump Spray-less man with a wasp overhead and a girlfriend in the bathroom.

I could have left, but then I would have never lived to create this fantastical blog.

The wasp flew over my head and into her bedroom.

I shut the bedroom door. Ta da! I have captured the wasp.

I proudly announced, “Honey, you can come out now!”

She cracked the door a bit, “Did you get it?”

“Better than that. I trapped it!” I was so proud of myself at that moment.

“Trapped it??? Where?”

“In your bedroom.” Again, a proud moment for me.

“My what!?!?!?!” Her shout was so loud the wasp must have winced his little wasp face at the roaring voice.

“You’re, bed…”

The realization of my faux pas was starting to sink in. I realized that I made a bad situation far worse. The wasp that was in the front room was now in one of the more revered places in a woman’s abode – her bedroom. That’s where undergarments are. Ya know, undergarments. See, I thought it was good that there was a door between us and the wasp, but now the wasp was in the room with the undergarments. That was bad – very bad.

“…room.”

It didn’t take long.

“You go in there and kill that wasp! You don’t know where it is now. It could be anywhere!!! (I knew where she meant when she said ‘anywhere’. It could have crawled in and tried on the undergarments.) GO GET IT!”

I quickly ran the spray bottle under the hot water in the kitchen, got it to spray, and walked back to the bedroom door and opened it. I swear – the wasp waved at me. He and I had some non-verbal communication through the crack in the door, then I walked in.

I sent this message to the wasp on a “Wasp Only” channel so he would understand “This is my girlfriend’s bedroom, and I am defending her undergarments drawer from you!”

The wasp flew toward me, and I gave it a good spray. He looked at his thorax and it was shiny. “Cool, kinda like a car wax for my butt. I’m getting this human, now!”, the wasp said (in a wasp voice).

wasptowardyou

I found a magazine with a star that had no hope of ever reviving their career and sprayed the wasp again on the next pass. It was a fatal hit and as the wasp began to fall to the ground, I swatted it mightily (well, as good as I could muster) with a Daniel Baldwin US Weekly issue.

A moment of silence for the wasp with the shiny hiney.

deadwasp

He is no more and I married the scared, beautiful lady that was hiding in the bathroom. All was well, until one of his descendants find their way in our home.

“Mr. Rock Music” Neighbors Ep. 1 – Unfinished Christian Audio production – Jeff’s Thoughts

I was going through my Google Docs and found an audio script for a Christian Audio production that challenges Christians. (To my knowledge) it’s never been done before, and there may be many reasons why. So, since I didn’t want it to stay in the bowels of my Google Docs account, I will post it here. The script is still pretty churchy (I wish I had a script collaborator, but I have no money to pay anyway, so there’s that), but the intent (and some funny moments, too) is there.

(Walking up)

John: Hey Peter.

Peter: Hey John, Watcha doin?

John: Enjoying my son practicing the saxophone.

Peter: Well, he’s inside. Oooohhh, gotcha. That’s pretty smart.

John: Uh huh.

Peter: Hey, I looked for you in church today. Where do you guys sit?

John: Nosebleed section. We don’t rush out the door to get to church, my wife takes her time getting ready.

Peter: Oh, I know. Our wives get ready for church, like a beauty pageant.

John: I love bein’ a guy. We throw on; what’s left in the closet, 2 shoes, lasso the kids, pile em in the car, and then- we’re ready to wait for our Mrs. Americas to make their grand entrance to the car.

John and Peter: (laughs)

Peter: You guys seem like the perfect family.

John: Who us? Not even.

Peter: Well, Right, but who is?

John: Uh huh.

(Car roaring by with loud music)

Peter: There goes our crazy neighbor from across the street.

John: Oh, Steve?

Peter: (Shocked) You know that guy?

John: Yea.

Peter: The guy that plays loud, rock music all the time. I mean, it feels like I’m in the front row of a concert every night. Loud guitars, the screaming, the drums…

John: Peter-

Peter: Yea?

John: My wife and I know him. (Trying to convince him) He’s really a good guy.

Peter: It’s not just the music. Its the tatoos, and piercings- I’ll bet it takes him 2 hours to get through the airport security line. *Boop*, “Try it again sir”, *Boop*, “Try it again sir”, *Boop*… (laughs)

John: Have you ever said anything to him?

Peter: Does yelling at him to “turn the music down,” count?

John: Uh, no.

Peter: Does he go to our church, too?

John: I don’t think so.

Peter: Then, why are you talking to him? That’s probably why he’s so messed up. He’s could be in some weird cult or something.

John: Peter. Listen, Jesus talked to people worse than that, and you know that.

Peter: Yea, but if you hang around him too much, he could affect you in the wrong way. Right?

John: But, what if I- What if we show him God’s Love? What if we affect him by being kind and being ourselves?

Peter: (Music from Steve’s house blares) (Exasperated) There’s his music again! Arrgh. He’s just so- Ah. (Sigh)

John: You gonna be okay, Peter?

Peter: I think so.

John: My son gets pretty loud on the saxophone, too.

Peter: Yea, but your my –

John: Friend?

Peter: Don’t do that. I know what you’re saying. I know. Okay, Okay, I guess I’ll buy earplugs for Mr. Steve and his Rock Music!

John: Can you, at least, wave at him, and smile next time he drives by?

Peter: (Walking Away) Roars by, you mean! (Realizes John is right) Sure, sure, I’ll wave, I’ll smile, I’ll even try to be nice- but not today.

John: Ok, good. I think I’ve made my point. Listen, I gotta get back into check on my saxophone player.

Peter: Yea, Yea, Bye. You know, this bein Christian stuff is really tough.

John: I know. Hey Pete, are we okay?

Peter: Yea, yea. I may not like you right now, but- (pause) your right. Now, I’ve gotta go buy earplugs, and a smile for my noisy neighbor. Bye, John.

John: Bye, Peter.

(Door Shut)
